The CAPA Approach to Learning Abroad

The CAPA mission has remained unchanged since 1972: to provide diverse and engaging learning abroad opportunities for American students where real intercultural learning occurs on a daily basis in a holistic educational environment.

A directed and structured approach to learning abroad is necessary to enable today’s students to bridge the gap between looking at culture and understanding culture.

We believe that this approach is crucial for semester and short term programs if students are to maximize their time abroad and learn in a genuine way about the country in which they are studying and the people who live there.

Program Centers

CAPA program centers are uniquely designed to make learning abroad accessible to a broad range of students. Our programs are made to be affordable and our centers are uniquely structured to be supportive and challenging.

CAPA program advisors are trained to deal with the significant issues that arise on a learning abroad program. These range from health and safety issues, personal and academic advising, to concerns of cultural assimilation. By examining relevant and contemporary concerns in country, we are also preparing students to engage with local people.

Learning Environment

At CAPA we believe in a total learning environment. This means that our staff and faculty believe that every moment they engage with your faculty and students is an opportunity to teach and learn.

What CAPA students say

"I have to say that participating in the CAPA London Program was truly the best decision I could have made for my study abroad experience. Not only was the staff helpful and ready to aid in my concerns but also warm and friendly. Where else could I have the opportunity to do an internship and take classes at the same time? I certainly got great career and hands-on work experience that will aid me in a future career. Aside from the education and friendly nature, being in London itself was a dream. Getting to walk down Kensington High Street, take a stroll in Hyde Park, meet celebrities, or even take in a show in Leicester Square - every day was unbelievable! The memories, friends and effect that CAPA had on my study abroad experience will stay with me forever."
